Motion Capture, Etc.

Update

Good Afternoon peoples!
So here we are for the next update in the series of updates.

This week has still been busy for myself so I've hadn't had much time to work on the project as promised. However; during my time working in classes I've decided to work on some bad Motion Capture data along with my classwork/load independently.

The first is of a crawl for a preViz that I thought would be great to show of a crawling monster.

The second one is of a roll that I was told would be hard to clean up as anything being covered up by the ground would tend to break the mocap data.

I do have other motions, but those other ones are not as difficult to clean up as these hear due to the low to the ground nature.

As for the Mery Dancing Project, things kept on coming up with classes and meetings kept me away from most of working on this that I'd really like to. One thing that I've done was spaced and cleaned the last remaining seconds for the main body poses and I've cleared the face and plan on restarting that soon.

Here's the playblast and it still is in need of some touching up.

Update

So for this update, its gonna be a rather short one as this has been a busy week where projects meeting deadlines came closer and took priority over may time thus leading me to barely focus on the updates.

A note from the late update from a classmate was to upload a dance without the segments but as a whole. I uploaded two copies of the dance (still in progress sadly).

This first one is one of the whole things in its entirety meaning I left the controls in from the frame 1 to frame 210.

The second upload is without the controllers being visible along the same amount of frames.

Please note the endings are still not polished, as well as the hand and face of the Mery Rig.

* Still plan on cleaning the poses to be more snappy
* Polish the hands
* Clean up the face (getting rather tired of looking at the same faces)

To show some work in my portfolio, I will upload what I've been working on as a side during classes in regard to the rigging of an astronaut / his spaceship too and motion capture cleanup data in regards to making a PreViz from a 20-60 second storyboard.

Portfolio Update

Here's the update for this week.
This week has been a bit freer so I was able to do a decent chunk of work.
I've uploaded to this page three separate videos;

* The first is the first 3 seconds of the animation clip
* The second is the next 4-6 seconds of animation
* The third is the remaining less than 3 seconds

So with the process, I've scrubbed through seconds at a time to see where I can add frames and then spaced them to act as holding poses to extend some actions.

After the spacing of the holds, I hopped into the graph editor and polished what was the most obvious to see when I was scrubbing through the timeline.

Nevertheless, I still plan on cleaning up the finger movements and face controls.

For the fingers, I'm still having troubles with the right hand as knuckle controls have disappeared even from the outliner.

For the face, I'll be trying to copy reference model / video, because looking at this while cleaning, the face is a distracting to me, to say the least.

I'm overall barely satisfied with my progress this week, but I still did a decent chunk and I hope to still clean up more to have this be a worthy showcase for my portfolio.

Break

For this week, I've been incredibly busy so I haven't had much time to work on the portfolio where posting minor changes wouldn't really be that's noteworthy. What I've done this week is some touch ups in the 1-2 seconds of the frames.

From what I've done this week;

I've spaced out the new poses/keyframes and timed the major poses, got rid of unneeded keys to minimize the amount jitteriness, cleaned up in the graph editor along with a few minor tweaks.

Instead of working on this, my busy schedule only allowed me to minorly work on it. However; during a brief break from one of my other projects, I've decided to brush up on my skills and made a quick pose to pose. Here is the Jill rig voguing it out.

With this pose to pose done, I've noticed I've gotten much better at cleaning poses and quick movements since I've been working on the Mery Rig dancing and in conversation with my professor to help me get a map of where to focus on.

With prior talks, I am aiming to get much better at working in my animation workflow.

I've cleared my schedule of one of my major projects and am definitely planning on clear through this portfolio project or at least a fairly decent chunk by the next update.

Portfolio Update

For this update, I was rather still busy, but productive in my scheduling and planning in getting a good chunk of work done. I cleaned up and am moving on to the next following seconds after the few next in cleaning up.

* I've cleaned up frame 25-48 which is the second part / second in terms of timing
* I've cleaned up the next following 48 frames
* I got 4 seconds of my animation of this complex dance completed

One thing I realized while cleaning up the 25-48 frames was that this grouping of frames was a second. And in that second I've been adding more movements that were actually needed. So what I did was cleaned up the translations/rotations/graph editor to ensure there is no jumpiness in the controls of the model.

After finishing the next two seconds after the 25-48, these were easier to clean up than the previous as I started to get into the cleanup and poses/refinement, yet there is still more work to be done.

The torso and the arms to hand have been smoothed over with a bit of spacing done to this.

However; one thing I noticed when I was animating the hands, particularly the right, a grouping of joint curves was missing or I had accidentally deleted them.

I decided I was too far gone so I've made the creative choice to have that hand flutter open/point about while the other be more dynamic.

Reworked but still needs more attention

Portfolio Update

For this update, I was working on the 25-48 frames and cleaning up the in-betweens.
However; I knew that this section was gonna be the hardest to keep up properly and as such I'm still trying to perfect my cleaning skills.

I got mostly rid of the issue with the hips of the character jumping and doing that weird shift into that next pose. The hands I haven't touched on yet as I've said that the hips were just too much to focus on and not on other parts. I've cleaned up the feet mostly as those were jolting forward and back, but there is still room for improvements.

I'll be cleaning up this part more or I'll get back to it after cleaning up the next scenes as those don't really concern me as much as the 25-48 frames do.

Here's the progress so far;
* One thing I see is the left leg is moving at an appropriate speed while the other is more of a snap.
* Another is the spine not being as a fluid into the next movement.
* Looking at the character from the front of her face, the head and shoulders are a bit tilted.

Portfolio Update

After conversing with my professor, we both came into agreement that I do not bite off more than I can chew when it comes to my portfolio entry.

I've decided to change up the project to be a continuation of my Advanced Animation Project from my last semester.

With this one, it's pretty lengthy, I blocked all the poses, splined it, and cleaned up what I could before that deadline to turn it in.

Here is the video of last semesters project.

My project

The issue with this one was that I tried to work on this without seeing what scenes were needed.
Never really took a break and all things went rather squirrely, from not rest and working on this in increments.

I wanted to tackle something that would test my skills and I happen to have a habit of taking on more than I'm used too.

With this new project, I'll clean up 1 sec of animation at a time a gradually moving through the timeline so all the frames are not "cleaned" in different spot thus throwing me off.

Portfolio Update

Been a rather occupied few weeks unfortunately as I wasn't able to keep on my list for what to do with Krampus' blocking and Steve's as well.

What I did was added a few more in-betweens with Krampus and roughly spaced out the poses on the timeline.

A few Maya Crashes on my Steve Rig when I had a good amount of poses done, but didn't save, so I decided to focus on a rig I have a better understanding of and put more time on the Krampus Rig.

I think I should be developing a different strategy in this production.
* Focus solely on the Krampus model, and spline him out
* Afterwards, work on the Kyle Rig with adding blocking and spline after I'm completely done with Krampus.

Portfolio Update

My schedule has been rather full of other projects and I haven't touched upon this project much.
What I've managed to do was add more in-between poses in the stepped view.

I've added more poses towards the end and cleaned up the movement to be more uniform.

I'll be giving the upcoming week more devotion to the next portfolio update as I've focused a majority of time on this.

Upcoming for next update!

* Kyle Rig will have all poses stepped out til the end of the scene
* Completed Krampus Rig poses out til ending of the scene
* Spaced out on the timeline in accordance to audio
* Start with splined movements after the above are done

Portfolio Update

A recap and update on the last week too.

I've decided to focus mainly on the American Dad clip with Steve Smith singing a duet with Krampus.

I've filmed a reference and posed out my asset acting as Krampus from the start point of the piano.
All that I have completed is just a basic walk cycle to the point with a heart wrenching for his love Sheila.

I've also modeled a quick piano to start him off with just like the original reference.

Portfolio Project

Update!

I've decided between two scenes I was really thinking about.

The one mentioned below involving the Joker's Killing Joke monologue, which my main focus would be the facial movement of a mad man. Of course, this is involving Joker and his mannerisms as well. I filmed reference for Joker walking as if on a  small stage giving a speech to an audience.

He will be holding a standing mic and walk around.

The second I'm split about involve American Dad's Steve and Krampus singing a duet and a bit of light dancing so that my main focus is concentrated on the body's movement. I stayed as close as I can to the scene, but given their movements are stationary I'll have to reference myself dancing in the same way for both of them.

The scene will involve a piano in a large cathedral-like room, a man rig, and a young boy rig.

The boy will be peaking through the doorway and join in the singing.

Portfolio Project - Killing Joke

I've been planning on learning to make the mouth move smoothly and with brevato. The video is Troy Baker on the dialogue of Joker's Killing Joke. I made the decision to choose Troy Baker over Mark Hamill is that his voice has more emotion to it and I can exaggerate this to perfectly test myself out.

First of the process is to film a reference of the speech other than the one Baker is portraying above. My idea is to animate the model on a podium speaking into a mic or talk walking around, using the audience in the background below to be as if there is an audience.

I will block out this process in steps, then I'll smooth out the motion and proceed with the face motions.

Timeline for the dialogue I'll use is (1:20 - 2:32).
